BASEhabitat Summer School 2025 on building with earth and plant fibres

Are you curious to explore the use of earth and plant fibres in construction?

Join the BASEhabitat Summer School to get to know different earth building techniques, build with straw and get first-hand experience in thatching.

Exchange with experts in the field and discuss with like-minded people from all around the world about their implementation in contemporary architecture.

The Summer School is an intensive 2-week programme that brings together an international group of craftspeople, architects, trainers and students. Participants will explore earth and fibres as building materials, experience different construction techniques and gain insights from leading experts in the field. It’s an enriching experience designed to inspire, connect and challenge conventional practices.

We address architects, students, lecturers, craftspeople and engineers from all over the world who are interested in sustainable architecture.

Costs

€ 2190.- tuition fee

The fee includes

  • accommodation in a 2-3 bed room (en suite) in the Holztechnikum Kuchl
  • full board (vegetarian, regional, seasonal)
  • participation in all the summer school activities, workshops and lectures
  • a summer school handbook

Scholarships

Although we strive to keep the costs of the Summer School as low as possible, we are aware that for some, participation is not possible without a scholarship. Therefore, we offer some scholarships in different amounts. Criteria for the award include academic/professional excellence, income level, nationality/place of residence, as well as multiplier potential and social commitment.
