Exhibition: Earthen architecture today – A traditional material for the future
The exhibition shows 40 projects that were awarded the TERRA Award in 2016.
The award was announced for the first time in 2016 by CRATerre and amàco research and experimental centre. The selected buildings are not only of a high architectural quality but also specific to their place and demonstrate innovative or pioneering new uses of traditional construction techniques.
The projects range from the reconstruction of a Chinese village destroyed by an earthquake to a contemporary interpretation of a local family house to the Ricola Headquarters by Herzog & de Meuron in Switzerland, or from a private house in Darmstadt to a school building in Pakistan. The selection of contemporary projects demonstrate the potential of this cultural legacy for the future.
